A Year is Nothing...Really!

What if you decided to commit to one year of taking really good care of yourself?

I’m not talking about a diet, a cleanse, a bootcamp intensive, or any other sort of quick fix…I’m talking about one full year of commitment to yourself and your health.

Does that seem ridiculous? I mean, I know you want to be in shape for your sister’s wedding in 3 weeks and your high school reunion is coming up in a couple of months, but…

One year is NOTHING. It may sounds like an interminably long time, but in the grand scheme of things a year is a drop in the bucket.

You’ve probably heard some variation on this idea:

People tend to overestimate what they can accomplish in a month and underestimate what they can accomplish in a year.

I was running with a friend today. I haven’t seen her much lately and was amazed at how healthy and fit she was looking.

AND I knew exactly why she has made such great progress...She has been consistent in her workouts and mindful of her eating habits for a WHOLE year.

Consistent, not perfect.

Mindful, not rigid.

It’s not difficult, but it does take time.

A year sounds like a long time, but we all know how quickly it goes by…ZOOM. And here’s the thing, my friend had tried a lots of different strategies in the past and had always given up before she saw the results she wanted.

It takes time and a balanced approach to see results—at least the kind of results that are sustainable.

When I say a year is nothing, I mean, a year from now is going to come pretty quickly. We all know this from experience.

What if one year ago today you had made the simple decision to practice moderation and consistency? Do you think you would feel better about how you look and feel today? If so, make the decision TODAY to be moderate and consistent and get off the diet merry-go-round FOREVER—it just makes you dizzy!

Moderation and consistency are the easiest, most effective, and most enjoyable way to live life HEALTHY.

I know it isn’t sexy. It doesn’t satisfy our collective longing for a *magic pill*. It certainly isn’t cutting edge, but the reason that you hear the words consistency and moderation over and over again is because—hello!—it works every damn time.
